History
UE Vicente Campo Elías
The institution bears this name in honor of the illustrious Prócer "Vicente Campo Elías", who was born in Villa de Soto (Spain) in October 1772, arrived in Venezuela in 1791 and took up residence in Trujillo, becoming a Trustee there. Later he resided in Mérida, where he married Martina Picón and González, daughter of Don Antonio Ignacio Rodríguez Picón, it is said that out of love for his wife he embraced the Republican cause, later joining the Independence movement on April 19, 1810 .
He bravely stood out in the struggles for the Independence of our country, in important battles alongside the Liberator Simón Bolívar, he was a hero with courage and patriotism in the battle of Araure, La Campaña Admirable and that of Mosquiteros. He fought bravely alongside José Félix Ribas in Victoria, Niquitao and Los Horcones.
